The selectors officially announced the squad on Sunday.
Gill, who captains India in Tests and ODIs, was ruled out of the second Test against South Africa after sustaining a neck injury during the opening match of the two-Test series.
Rahul, India’s first-choice wicketkeeper in ODIs, has been tasked with captaining a 15-member squad featuring senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The series will begin on 30 November in Ranchi.
Kohli and Rohit, who stepped away from T20Is following India’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, now feature exclusively in the 50-over format. Earlier this year, both also announced their retirement from Test cricket.
ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer remains unavailable as he continues recovering from a lacerated spleen suffered during an ODI against Australia in Sydney last month.
The squad sees the return of left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
The second and third ODIs will take place on 3 and 6 December, respectively, after which the two sides will shift focus to a five-match T20I series.
