The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election took place just a few days ago, and immediately afterward, the board began preparations to organize the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The country’s cricket governing body has already invited tenders for franchise ownership.

Several former franchises have shown interest in returning to the tournament, notably the Khulna Tigers, owned by the Mind Tree Group, with Iqbal Al Mahmud as its owner. A reliable source has confirmed to Cricfrenzy that the group has expressed interest in taking part in the next edition of the BPL.

As previously reported, this year’s BPL is scheduled to take place between December and January. The BCB is preparing for the player draft on November 17, with expectations that the tournament will feature six teams. Each franchise is likely to sign a five-year agreement with the board.

Recently, international event management company IMG was officially handed the responsibility of organizing the BPL.

Initially, the BCB signed a three-year agreement with IMG, though some media reports suggested that IMG might not be interested in continuing with the tournament. However, the BCB is reportedly negotiating a revised deal with the firm.

IMG has ultimately agreed to stay on under new arrangement, due to limited time before the tournament, the company will work on a short-term contract for the upcoming edition.

The three-year full contract will come into effect from the following BPL season. In total, the BCB will have IMG involved with the league for four years.

Meanwhile, the BCB has invited franchise bids under the names of 10 regional zones, Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, Cumilla, Noakhali, and Mymensingh. For the first time in BPL history, Noakhali and Mymensingh have been included as potential franchise regions.
