Despite his consistency with the red ball, Taijul has often been overlooked in the shorter formats and franchise leagues, where big-hitting and pace usually dominate the spotlight.
That changed at the SA20 2025 auction, where Taijul became the first Bangladeshi player to be picked by Durban’s Super Giants at his base price of 500,000 Rand.
This marks a new chapter for the 32-year-old spinner, giving him a rare opportunity to display his skills in one of the world’s most competitive T20 leagues.
In Durban, Taijul will share the field with international stars like Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, and Sunil Narine.
While Taijul got his breakthrough, Mustafizur Rahman went unsold despite being the first Bangladeshi name called. No franchise showed interest in the left-arm pacer, who will instead turn out for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.
The 14 Bangladeshis included in the auction pool are: Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Sheikh Mehdi Hasan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shamim Hossain, Towhid Hridoy, Hasan Mahmud, Zakir Ali Anik, Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana, Litton Das, and Shakib Al Hasan.
Apart from Taijul the rest of them went unsold.
