A total of 23 Bangladeshi cricketers have entered their names for the SA20 auction, scheduled for September 9 in Johannesburg.

However, they have not released the list of which 23 Bangladeshi cricketers have registered.

They are part of the 782 players worldwide vying for a place in South Africa’s flagship T20 league. The competition is intense: only 84 slots are available, meaning nearly 90% of the applicants will be left out.

Among the registrants are 153 from England, 50 West Indians, 40 Pakistanis, 36 Sri Lankans, 27 Afghans, 24 Americans, 13 Indians, 11 each from the UAE and Scotland, plus smaller groups from countries such as Namibia, Nepal, Oman and Malawi. South Africa unsurprisingly leads the count with 328 players.

While the odds are stacked against most, Bangladesh’s 23 hopefuls will aim to break into one of the six franchises and gain exposure in a league that has quickly become a global T20 attraction.
