However, the tournament wasn’t without its share of pre-event drama, largely centered around India’s political tensions with Pakistan. Due to these strained relations, Rohit Sharma and his team did not travel to Pakistan, with all their matches being held in Dubai instead.
The International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to schedule all of India’s matches in Dubai sparked criticism from certain quarters of the cricket community. Many believe that playing all their games at the same venue offers India a considerable advantage.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports Australia, Australian skipper Pat Cummins weighed in on the debate, agreeing that the situation does favor India.
“I think it's good that the tournament can go on, but obviously it does give them (India) a huge advantage playing on the same ground. They already look very strong and they've got that obvious benefit of playing all their games there,” Cummins said.
Currently sidelined due to injury, Cummins is missing out on the ongoing tournament.
India kicked off their campaign with a commanding six-wicket victory against Bangladesh, highlighted by Shubman Gill’s match-winning unbeaten century. They followed it up with another six-wicket win, this time against arch-rivals Pakistan, propelling them to the top of Group A.
