Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal has officially launched a landmark initiative to honour all cricketers who have captained Bangladesh at the international level, introducing a lifetime “Captains’ Card” with a range of exclusive benefits.

Bangladesh’s first captain Shamim Kabir was announced at the ceremony, but in his absence, organisers confirmed the card will be handed to his family.

Former captains from different eras, including Rakibul Hasan, Shafiq-ul-Haq Hira and Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, along with current leaders like Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, received their cards on stage.

Women’s team captains, Nigar Sultana Joty, Jahanara Alam, Rumana Ahmed and Salma Khatun were also included under the same initiative.

The “Captains’ Card” will allow former captains to attend all matches in Bangladesh, including international fixtures, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and domestic competitions without needing tickets or standing in queues. It will also provide VIP parking inside stadiums.

Tamim said he never wants to see a Bangladesh captain waiting in line or calling for tickets, stressing that their contributions cannot be repaid with tickets alone. The card will serve as a lifelong identity and recognition of their service.

In addition, the board has introduced health insurance for all past, present and future captains, ensuring 24/7 access to BCB’s medical team, including support for treatment abroad.

Several former captains attended the ceremony, while notable names such as Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Faruque Ahmed, Aminul Islam Bulbul and Khaled Mashud Pilot were absent due to various reasons. Tamim confirmed that all of them have been contacted and their cards are ready.
