Just around 20 minutes before their match against Rajshahi Warriors, Dhaka Capitals players were undergoing practice when assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki, who was working closely with the team, suddenly collapsed on the ground after suffering a heart attack.

CPR was administered immediately on the field before Zaki, who had served domestic cricket in Bangladesh for many years, was rushed to the hospital.

As his condition became critical, Dhaka Capitals’ assistant coach was admitted to the ICU at Al Haramain Hospital in Sylhet. Despite all medical efforts, doctors were unable to save him.

Zaki passed away after collapsing at the BPL venue, sending shockwaves through Bangladesh’s cricketing community. Players and officials alike have struggled to come to terms with his sudden demise.

Reacting to the news, national cricketer Shoriful Islam said he was unable to believe the loss. In an emotional message, he recalled how Zaki had guided them since their Under-19 days, standing by them like a guardian through every step, including their World Cup triumph. He also prayed for Zaki’s soul and strength for his grieving family.

Dhaka Capitals, in an official statement, expressed deep sorrow at the passing of their beloved assistant coach, who died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The franchise conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of his soul.

Zaki had been associated with Bangladesh cricket for a long time and also worked as a specialist pace bowling coach under the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s game development program.

The BCB and BPL franchise Rajshahi Warriors both expressed their condolences following the death of the 59-year-old coach.

Cricketer Rishad Hossain, currently in Australia, also expressed his grief, saying the pain of losing Zaki was deeply felt even from afar. He highlighted the special bond Zaki shared with the Under-19 team and prayed for his eternal peace.

In a significant gesture, Dhaka Capitals announced that they will take responsibility for the expenses of Zaki’s family and children following his death.
