Scoring 26 runs in the final over might seem impossible, even in the golden era of T20 cricket. But Rangpur Riders captain Nurul Hasan Sohan proved that nothing is unattainable in cricket. In a dramatic finish against Fortune Barishal at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium,

Sohan smashed 30 runs in the last over with three sixes and three fours, leading Rangpur to a remarkable 3-wicket victory. This win extended their unbeaten streak to six matches in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

In the post-match press conference, Sohan revealed that he had unwavering confidence in pulling off the chase. “Khushdil hit two sixes in the previous over and kept saying it’s possible. Kamrul Islam Rabbi also told me to take the strike for the final balls. I believed that if I connected well, we could win. After hitting the first ball for a six, my confidence soared,” said Sohan.

While this isn’t the first time Sohan has been involved in a nail-biting finish, he recalled the heartbreak of the 2022 T20 World Cup match against India in Adelaide.

In that game, Bangladesh needed 20 runs in the final over, and despite Sohan’s unbeaten 25, they fell short by just 5 runs.

“Even after today’s win, I kept thinking about that World Cup match against India. We needed 20 runs in the last over, and I scored 15-16 but couldn’t win it for the team. It feels great to achieve that today,” he said.

Even with two runs required off the final ball, Sohan had no intention of playing it safe. “I didn’t want to end it with singles or doubles. I was confident if the ball was in my zone, I’d go for the big shot,” he added.

When asked if this was the best innings of his career, Sohan smiled and said, “People tend to forget quickly where I bat! But yes, contributing to the team’s win is the most important thing. Since we won, this is definitely one of my best innings.”
