For West Indies to surpass that, they needed to chase down 167 runs against Thailand within 10.1 overs.

Despite a powerful 70 from Hayley Matthews and a fiery 48 off 17 balls by Shamilia Henry, the Caribbean side managed 168 in 10.5 overs — enough for a win, but not for the required NRR (finishing at 0.626), thus falling short of qualification.

The run chase created a dramatic finale. At one point, the equation was so fine that West Indies could only surpass Bangladesh if they tied the score with a boundary and then struck a six to win — all within 12 overs. At 10.4 overs, they stood at 162. A six off 10.5 overs sealed the match win, but not the World Cup berth.

Bangladesh had made their maiden appearance in the 50-over World Cup in 2022.

The eight-team World Cup this year will take place in India from September 29 to October 26.
