Bangla Tigers Mississauga have been eliminated from the GT20 Canada league despite finishing in third place, as a result of a controversial decision by match officials and the refusal of their skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, to play a super over.
The incident occurred during the eliminator match against the Toronto Nationals, with both teams fighting for a spot in Qualifier-2.
The match ended in a tie, typically leading to a super over to determine the winner. However, match officials controversially decided to proceed with a super over, a decision that Bangla Tigers' captain, Shakib, strongly opposed.
Shakib refused to participate, expressing concerns about the fairness of the decision and its potential impact on his team's performance in the playoffs.
As a result of this refusal, the Toronto Nationals, who finished fourth in the league, advanced to Qualifier-2, while the Bangla Tigers were eliminated from the playoffs despite their higher ranking.
This decision has sparked widespread debate among fans and experts, with many questioning the role of the match officials and the fairness of their decision.
