Australia's captain, Mitchell Marsh, is pinning his hopes on a Bangladesh victory after Australia's 24-run loss to India in their final Super 8 match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.

"It's disappointing (to lose). Still technically there's a chance to go through, and today India got the better of us. I think over the course of 40 overs there's a lot of small margins, but honestly, India were the better team," Marsh said at the post-match presentation.

"Come on, Bangladesh," Marsh concluded.

Australia's defeat leaves their semifinal fate uncertain, hinging on the outcome of the match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

India have already secured their semifinal spot from Group 1, having won all three of their matches and earning six points. Both Australia and Afghanistan have two points each. Bangladesh, despite being winless in the Super 8 stage so far, still have a chance to qualify for the semifinals.

For Bangladesh to advance, they must either beat Afghanistan by 62 runs or chase down the target within 11.5 to 13.4 overs in their final match. If Bangladesh wins by a smaller margin, it will be Australia who clinches the last semifinal spot.
