Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar remained optimistic about the T20 World Cup title despite a series of poor performances by his team leading to the prestigious tournament.

Bangladesh’s preparation for the upcoming event was disastrous, having lost the three-match T20Is 2-1 against co-host USA and recently suffered a heavy defeat by 60 runs against India in the warm-up match.

Bangladesh are mainly struggling due to poor batting display of the top-order, however, Soumya was hopeful of winning the the T20 World Cup title.

"I always dream big; I dream of becoming a champion. If someone dreams of semi-final, I think about the final. Then whatever the result may come. There will be good and bad results on the field. There will be ups and downs, wins and losses. We want to give our best,” said Soumya in BCB’s Green Red Story.

Soumya was delighted to be part of the World Cup squad and looking forward to a successful World cup in the presence of veteran Shakib al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad.

"Participating in any World Cup as a player is a source of pride. I had the opportunity to play in the first World Cup in 2015, and I am looking forward to the excitement once again. I aim to create lasting memories in 2024 and contribute positively to the team," he said.

"Shanto is the new captain, Shakib and Riyad Bhai are also been playing for a long time. By combining everyone's experience and playing as a team, I hope we can present a good tournament,” he added.
