Sri Lanka asserted their dominance over Bangladesh in the ongoing second Test in Chattogram, piling on a monumental total that seems to have buried the hosts under an avalanche of runs. Despite this daunting situation, Bangladesh's batting coach, David Hemp, remains optimistic, emphasizing their continued focus on winning the game.

Bangladesh suffered a setback when Mahmudul Hasan Joy departed unexpectedly before stumps, leaving them trailing by a staggering 476 runs.

The pitch at Chattogram is notably one of the more favorable surfaces in the country, offering assistance to both batsmen and bowlers. Hemp stressed the significance of Bangladesh's performance on day three, recognizing the pivotal role it will play in shaping the outcome of the match.

“We are still thinking about winning the game. It might seem a bit bizarre considering we are 480 runs behind. The key bit will be to negotiate tomorrow. If we do that well, then we negotiate the day after. If we do that, from a batting point of view, you never know what can happen. First things first, we have to make sure we bat well for three sessions tomorrow,” said Hemp after the day’s play.

“We saw the odd ball turn quite a bit during the day. It looks like a pretty good pitch seeing the way we played or the boundaries we hit. I don’t think it will change much tomorrow.”

Bangladesh put down some chances on Day 2 too as Hemp had to answer questions about dropped catches like yesterday, where bowling coach Andre Adams also faced similar questions.

"It's something that we are working on. No one means to drop catches but when the bowlers are working hard to create opportunities, you have to take those opportunities," he said.

One of those drops was particularly bizarre, as three Bangladesh fielders—Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shahadat Hossain, and Zakir Hasan—managed to somehow combine in a series of unfortunate events that resulted in a dropped catch.

"I thought [Shahadat Hossain] Dipu had the best chance to get that [catch]. Both those fielders field at short-leg so their reaction is pretty good.  I thought when it popped out, one of them would be able to get it. But unfortunately not. We don't see that often," Hemp mentioned.
