Bangladesh captain Shakib al Hasan claimed the young players, who have already won a World Cup have a ‘winning mentality’ and will give their best in the Asia Cup.
The Asia Cup squad comprises a bunch of cricketers from the U-19 World Cup winning team including Tanzid Tamim, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Shamim Patwary, Shoriful Islam and in-form batter Towhid Hridoy.
Shakib stated that they have experienced the aura of playing on big stages and possess the mentality to shine on big stages.
"Since they won a World Cup before. They have a World Cup-winning mentality. I believe it will motivate our team to do better. They have the mindset of winning. It is quite significant. Hopefully, they will approach the dressing room with the same mindset and create the same mood,” Shakib said in the press conference.

Tanzid Tamim was named as the replacement of former captain Tamim Iqbal in the Asia Cup squad, Shakib said he was optimistic about the young talent and hopeful for him to perform.

“I am very optimistic about Tanzid. Not only me but the whole team has expectations from him that he will do really well," he said.
"It's not like that if he does not perform in 2-4 matches then he will be considered as a good player. Again, it is not like that if he do well in few matches, he will become a good player. There is a lot of time ahead. What I expect from him is to perform and enjoy the way he has been performing,” he added.
Shakib also stated that his side wasn’t looking at Asia Cup as a preparatory ground for the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
"You cannot think of the World Cup with the Asia Cup because they are two different tournaments. Yes, if we can do well and develop as a good team in Asia Cup, in that case we have some good chance to do well in the World Cup and from that point of view Asia Cup is important,” Shakib said.
“But it is not like if we do badly in the Asia Cup will imply that there is no chance for us in the World Cup nor if we do great will suggest that our chances in the World Cup will increase substantially.
He added that the side would begin looking at the World Cup only after the Asia Cup had concluded.
“Now the whole plan is based on the Asia Cup and the preparation and team is prepared accordingly. When we finish the Asia Cup, the World Cup will come and we will think about it at that point of time. Now we are thinking only about Asia Cup and more precisely we are only thinking about Afghanistan, Sri Lanka game.”
