However, the Tigers aimed to play well and gain some confidence. Unfortunately, untimely rain in Rawalpindi dashed those hopes, forcing the match to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. Bangladesh finished the tournament with just 1 point, ending a frustrating campaign.

Rain delayed the start of the match in Rawalpindi

The Group A clash between hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh on Thursday was called off due to persistent rain, preventing even the toss. Both teams had already been knocked out after losing their first two matches, making this match essentially a dead rubber.

In a conversation with the tournament’s broadcasters, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his disappointment: “I am very disappointed. We really wanted to play this match, but there’s nothing we can do about the weather.”

Bangladesh lost their opening match to India by six wickets and then fell to New Zealand by five wickets. While the Tigers couldn’t secure a win, Shanto saw a silver lining in how his team stretched both matches into the 47th over, saying, “The way we extended the games was very inspiring for us. I hope we learn from our mistakes, create a proper plan, and execute it well.”

The Bangladesh skipper also praised his pace attack: “We’ve struggled with our fast-bowling unit in the past, but over the last few years, many fast bowlers have emerged. Taskin (Ahmed) is doing really well, (Nahid) Rana has joined, and Fizz (Mustafizur Rahman) is there. We have a very good bowling attack. I hope they continue doing their job and give their best for the team.”

Bangladesh’s batters, however, struggled to rotate the strike, managing 181 dot balls against New Zealand. Acknowledging this issue, Shanto said, “We need to practice batting properly in the nets. We need to focus on strike rotation. It is very important, and I hope the boys understand what needs to be done.”

Like Bangladesh, defending champions Pakistan also ended the tournament with 1 point. However, Bangladesh finished third in Group A due to a better net run rate, leaving Pakistan at the bottom of the table.
