Bangladesh pace bowler Abu Jayed insisted that he is avoiding oily food and keeping his diet restricted to fish to restrict him from getting fat during his time at home due to coronavirus pandemic.

In an effort to keep cricketers fit during the holidays announced to curb the spread of COVID-19, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has designed a guideline for maintaining a basic level of fitness and conditioning as well as mental health.

All cricketing activities remain suspended in the country including domestic tournaments and preparation camps.

The BCB is mindful of the challenges the cricketers will face when they return to the field and the guideline has been prepared as a priority. The exercise instructions from BCB’s Head of Physical Performance Nick Lee are easy to follow at home even if someone does not have access to fitness equipment or a gym.

The National Team players have been given a specialised programme.

A general guideline and day by day workout plan is available to all cricketers through the Board’s official digital platforms. A sudden return to cricket after a prolonged lay off raises risks of injury. That is why the Board expects the players to make the best use of this initiative.

The Board also acknowledges the need for mental support during these difficult times. Accordingly, the BCB medical team has developed a Mental Health document for the players which are also accessible on the BCB’s official website and Facebook page.

Jayed, a boy from Sylhet town, said that he taking part in some outdoor activities in the small yard in front of his house to keep his mind fresh in this time of crisis while adding that he is keeping an eye on his diet chart.

‘‘Now my mother is used to with my food habit. She knows that I avoid oily and spicy food. I like fish, so she cooks fish for me,’ Jayed was quoted in an English daily on Tuesday.

Jayed added that he has been making good use of his treadmill, gym equipment and his Apple watch to maintain his fitness.

‘I have a treadmill in the house and have also set up a small gym with some equipment like Therra-Band. I do high intensity running in the treadmill, do the freehand exercises and check the stats in Apple watch,’ Jayed said.
