Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud Sujon on Monday said that the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is yet to be worthy like the Indian Premier League (IPL) as far as building the ‘next generation player’ is concerned.
The BPL franchises are not proactive like the IPL’s, he said adding that the IPL franchises have already built their own academy and in doing so they provided a platform from which players are coming regularly.
While talking to this issue, Mahmud cleared about the difference between the two domestic leagues by saying, “BPL is mere child comparing to IPL.”

However, the BPL set off its journey in 2012, following the model of IPL but the outcomes are minimal as far as the IPL is concerned.
“Every franchise in IPL has its own academy. If you think about IPL or India, then we are a mere child to them. It would be wrong if we compare our cricket to Indian cricket. As far as the economic and structural aspect is concerned, we are no match for them,” Mahmud told the reporters on Monday.
“In IPL, the franchisees find out the players from the grassroots level and academy and prepare the player for the senior team. But here in BPL, the case is different but if any franchise comes with such plan, the board will help in this regard” he added.
The IPL started its journey in 2008 and provided so many players who are now an integral part of the Indian national team. Almost all of the current national players in India are the product of IPL.
The BPL also has provided some players for the national team but not the systematic way like IPL.
