While many believed that the Bangladesh team looked outright fatigued in the series against Sri Lanka that caused their defeat,  Soumya Sarkar ruled out this issue, saying that they were alright in this sector at least.

Bangladesh had already lost the series after losing first two matches by 91 runs and seven wickets. With these two matches, Bangladesh played a total of 15 matches in the last 53 days, staring with the tri-nation series in Ireland.

They played five matches including a nerve-wrecking final in Ireland, eight matches in World Cup and two in this ongoing series. In their history, they never played such number of matches in such short period.

There were number of injury issues for which two players—Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mohammad Saifuddin were ruled out of the series. It is believed that some more players including the senior player Mahmudullah was also injured but they somehow managed to play.

Chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said the players were included in the team based on the positive fitness report by the physio.

But still most of the players looked fatigued which was key behind the poor ground fielding in first two matches in which they conceded at least 50/60 runs. In addition, Bangladesh also missed some crucial catches.

“Our task is to play cricket and we have come here to win the series,” said Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar.

“I don’t know whether individually anyone is fatigued. But when I practiced with the whole it doesn’t seem to me that anyone is fatigued or carrying niggles. Everyone had the hunger to play well here because we couldn’t do well in World Cup as per our expectation.”
