Bangladesh skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza insisted that they will take the conventional route once they take on South Africa in their opening game of the ICC World Cup.

Whereas teams like England, Australia and India are expected to take the charge from the word go it won’t be the case with Bangladesh.

The men in red and green are one of the few teams that made earned reasonable amount of success in the ODI’s format despite taking the traditional approach- keeping wickets intact in the initial phase and later exploit the middle overs through picking odd boundaries along with rotating the strike regularly and trying to give the killer punch in the last couple of overs.

A stat on the performance from 2015 World Cup till May 30 shows that Bangladesh are placed eighth among the 10 countries when it comes to scoring runs in the power play and it only indicates the mindset of the team in general.

The fact South Africa were troubled after losing couple of wickets early in their opening game against England and eventually being unable to recover from that point against the host also left an impact on their mind if their skipper is to be believed as he suggested they are going to play the game according to their strength instead of trying to follow the path that suits others.

‘’I think we need to play with the mindset that whatever runs we score we have to defend. Till now the matches that I have seen it looked to me that teams are unable to post a huge total because of losing quick wickets. England scored over 300 in Oval batting first, may be their strategy was different. Its may be a reason. For South Africa I think they missed set Hashim Amla on the pitch. After Amla was gone they lost two quick wickets. These small things put a team on the back seat but I think everything is inter-connected,’’ he said.

‘’Losing quick wickets would make it difficult to score runs here. We have focus on keeping wickets in hand while batting,’’ he said adding that they opener Tamim Iqbal will make the last call when it comes to his participation in the opening game.
