In 2014, he first batted at the number three position against Zimbabwe. He made a duck at his first try then he scored 29 runs against South Africa on his second try in 2017. Later on, he scored two half centuries against West Indies in their home turf, that three match series certainly gave him confidence about his ability to bat on the number three position.

I think the earlier the better, personally I want to play on number three. I have also told the coach and the captain. But nevertheless I don’t have any problem to play anywhere for the team. I have the mentality to consider.”  He quoted.

"Sometimes in your life, you need a kick, like in the movie. I have got the kick, I won't say how. That's a secret. It has come in a way that has awakened me," he revealed. "It's not a big deal. I was fit up to 2011. After that, I didn't get much chance to work on my fitness and I didn't feel any push too. But I have got the kick now."
