Bangladesh experienced opener Tamim Iqbal said on Wednesday that instead of raising fingers towards their 15-member World Cup squad everyone should back it.
Though chief selector Minhajul Abedin went unscratched while announcing the 15-member squad there are still some names that remained in the spotlight who were axed like Taskin Ahmed and Imrul Kayes Anamul Haque and Farhad Reza with the formers crying picture hovering around in almost every local media.
Tamim, over the years emerged as one of the most experienced and assured Bangladesh batsman and is now set to appear in his fourth World Cup in England this summer with a lot of hopes and responsibility on his shoulders.
Tamim told media on Tuesday that it was a deserving team but also added that there would be ifs and buts when forming a balanced squad.
‘’I think no matter what kind of squad you prepare there will always be some debate. Preparing a squad for World Cup is not an easy task. There are some players who performed well but could not make it into the squad while there are some other players who are not performing well but made it into the squad,’’ said Tamim.
‘’I think instead of bothering what could happen if he was there we should back the team that has selected the selectors,’’ he said.

‘’I think it's unfortunate as you can't take everyone as there were quite a few who performed well such as Bijoy [Anamul Haque] was exceptionally good, Forhad Reza also did well but a few players missed out due to the team combination.
‘’The board has selected 15 players and we should try to boost the confidence of the players who got selected for the first time. There are many players who have performed well but couldn’t get the opportunity,’’ he said.
‘’We have waited for 4 years for this event and if we now criticize the decision of the selectors, it will demotivate. This is the biggest platform to show your talent in cricket world. There are some new faces with good potential I hope they can prove it in the field,’’ he added.
Tamim added that he is not too concerned about his own form in the World Cup and added that he just want to follow the basics that had earned him success so far.
“I am not so concern about my personal achievement. I will try my best to do the things that my team will expect from me. We will play against Irelands before the world cup I think that will help me to cover up the lacking that need to be minimized in my game,’’ he said.
Tamim added that he is expecting to receive good support during their campaign in England.
‘’There were many Bangladesh supporters came to support us when we faced England in Champions Trophy. I hope they will come and support us again and will try our best to give them back some good performance,’’ said Tamim adding that all the teams will be vying to make their presence felt in the competition.
‘’Only ten teams are participating in this world cup and all of them want to win it. We are not going to England just to participate. Weather we can win or not we have to keep in our mind that we can make it and that is really important,’’ he said.
‘’Of course India and England are the favorites but no one expected Sri Lanka would win the 96 world cup still they achieved it. Australia and Pakistan also have a very good team so so it’s tough to say,’’ he added.
Tamim said that mental preparation will play a key role in the World Cup.
‘’Mental preparation is very important before an event like this. If you are not mentally prepared 50 days training would not work. So this is very important. We have an advantage that we are going to play tri-nation series before the world cup in England I think that will help us a lot to get used to with the conditions though England and Ireland’s pitches are different,’’ he said.
