West Indies eye to break the deadlock

West Indies are looking for an opportunity to break the deadlock as they haven’t won any bilateral ODI series since 2014. Their last ODI series win was against Bangladesh when they whitewashed them in the three-match series. After than they lost 14 series, including a series loss at the hands of Bangladesh at their own den in July this year. In between they drew a series against Afghanistan and their one-match series against Ireland was washed out due to rain.
West Indies captain Rovman Powell is aware of that horrible streak and vowed to break the jinx.

“We haven’t won an ODI series in a long time,” he said on Saturday. “The guys are upbeat and raring to go. No better opportunity to change it in Bangladesh. We have played some lovely cricket in India but we didn’t get the results that we wanted. A few series before the World Cup, it will be good to get the series win under our belt. It will give us confidence going into the World Cup also.”
Powell however seemed to be engrossed with revenge as he said they are looking to do the same what Bangladesh did against them in last July.
“It will be challenging. Any team is difficult to face with their home advantage. Bangladesh has been very good at home. We are fully aware of it as a team. They beat us in the Caribbean, and we are looking to do the same to them here,” he said.
Powell, a relatively new captain, also expected a support from his senior mates in their quest to win the series against Bangladesh.
“It will pose some challenges but you only captain when you are fielding. Once we are batting, I am no longer the captain. I am just Rovman Powell batting in his position. As it is, we have a few senior guys like Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite the T20 captain so a lot of experience is there to help me along the way.”
