Rangpur Division put up a brilliant batting display in their first National Cricket League encounter against Barisal Division. The two Tier 1 sides faced each other at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium on October 1.
Winning the toss, Barisal elected to field first and took four wickets by the time their opponents reached 101 runs. Except for a 62-run innings from their opener Jahid Javed, the Rangpur-based team saw no notable contribution till then.
Naeem Islam and Ariful Haque then stitched a crucial 195-run stand to get a firm grip on the match. Shohag Gazi, who previously removed Javed, dismissed Naeem for 92 runs, but Ariful remained unbeaten with a hundred to his name.

Kamrul Islam, Salman Hossain, and Monir Hossain Khan also bagged a wicket each for Barisal, but that was not enough to put their side on the driver’s seat of the match.
Ariful will resume his 117-run innings on day-2 and while his team will look to bat for full 120 overs, which is the newly-set quota for each batting team in the first innings.
