Mahmudullah Riyad is having some good time with the willow ahead of the Asia Cup as he guided St Kitts to the play-off Caribbean Premier League with cameo of 28 runs off 11 deliveries.
Mahmudullah was not getting a chance to make an impact with the bat league but showed his batting prowess just when it mattered. In his unbeaten innings of 28 runs, the Bangladesh all-rounder clubbed two fours and as many sixes.
Mamudullah is expected to join the Bangladesh team on September 6.
In a game marred by rain, Patriots chased down the revised target of 118 (in 11 overs) with five balls to spare. With this victory, Patriots also sealed their spot in the playoffs.
Rassie van der Dussen made 45 runs from 24 balls, stitching a 47-run partnership that steered St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to a seven-wicket win against Jamaica Tallawahs, with five balls to spare.
Batting first, Jamaica Tallawahs posed a daunting total of 206 runs losing six of their wickets in 20 overs, thanks to Rovman Powell's 40-ball 84.
For Patriots, Ben Cutting took two scalps, While Alzarri Joseph, Carlos Brathwaite, and Fabian Allen bagged one wicket each.
In reply, Evin Lewis was out for a duck before Chris Gayle (41) and van der Dussen played a flurry of shots to not just help the hosts restore their innings. Heavens opened up to interrupt the game after the seventh over. Patriots needed 53 off 27 balls as per the DLS Method when the game resumed.
Gayle got dismissed by Krishmar Santokie offering Tallawahs a sigh of relief. At that crucial juncture, van der Dussen and Mahmudullah threw them out of the fray by scoring 27 runs in the ninth over before sealing the game in the next seven deliveries.
Patriots have a two-point lead over fifth-placed St. Lucia Stars and will play their final game of the league phase against Barbados Tridents on September 4. On the other hand, Tallawahs, who have already progressed to the playoffs, will take on Amazon Warriors on September 5.
