Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Sabbir Rahman, it certainly has been, as the batsman might face a six-month ban for his alleged involvement in the Facebook controversy, confirmed Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] sources.
The right-hander has already lost his central contract and served a six-month domestic ban for assaulting a fan in the recent past. He has also been axed from the national team due to his lack of form and other controversies and will not feature in the Asia Cup next month.

Sabbir seems to be too interested in making the headlines for wrong reasons these days. During Bangladesh’s T20I series against Afghanistan, reports emerged claiming the batsman had initiated a physical altercation with teammate Mehidy Hasan. Although the latter clarified the issue saying it was something of nothing, Sabbir retained his bad boy tag by allegedly threatening two fans – who ridiculed his miserable form – on Facebook during the Tigers’ tour of West Indies.
However, the 26-year-old denied the allegations by saying that his account was hacked, but BCB does not appear to be satisfied with his explanation as the batsman has been involved in too many controversies to brush them under the carpet.
Imposing a six-month ban on Sabbir means he will sit out at least three bilateral series (against Zimbabwe, West Indies at home and against New Zealand at their own den) after the Asia Cup.
“There is a possibility that he can be stripped of his national duty for six months,” said a BCB official, requesting anonymity.
The comment came a day after BCB president Nazmul Hassan said that, according to him, the biggest punishment for a national team cricketer is losing the chance to represent his country at the international level.
