“Mithun must seize the opportunity”

Bangladesh batsman Mohammad Mithun will once again have the opportunity to represent his country at the international levels, eight months after his last appearance in the Red and Green outfit. Sabbir Rahman’s ouster from the team due to lack of form and controversies has been a boon to Mithun as he will now have another chance to cement his place in the national team.
BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin, too, stressed that the wicketkeeper batsman should make the best of this opportunity. Although Mithun will not get to bat higher up the order or open the innings, Abedin believes that the 28-year-old will do well in the middle-order given his performance in the domestic circuit.
“He must seize this opportunity,” Abedin was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. “It is true that he batted at the top but at the same time he can bat lower down the order. We have seen him batting at different position in the domestic arena.”

Speculations suggested that Mominul Haque would get a chance in the national side after his recent performance for the Bangladesh A team during their tour of Ireland, but Mithun got an upper hand over the southpaw due to his ability to handle spin-bowling better.
“We considered him in the middle order at number six-seven position and he has scored a couple of fifties in the A team ODI series in Ireland,” said Minhajul.
“The captain and coach asked for a middle order batsman who can play spin well.”
“They mentioned his name and so we decided to include him,” he added.
It has long been established that newcomers in the Bangladesh national team fail to meet the expectations and it will be Mithun’s job to break the stereotype by putting up some decisive performances for the team, like he did in Ireland.
