Abu Jayed: I have always wanted to become a Test cricketer

In an era where people are more interested in reducing the duration of the game of cricket, it is hard to find players who possess the mindset of preferring Test cricket over all other formats.
Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed Rahi is one of those who choose to enjoy the glory after putting up a five-day-long fight instead of going for a shorter route. Despite starting his Test career with an embarrassing series defeat against West Indies in the recent past, Jayed does not believe in giving up and is all set to face the new challenges in this format.
While the longest version of the game is losing its popularity to shorter formats like T10 and T20, it is indeed satisfying to know that there are still cricketers like Abu Jayed whose love for the oldest format of the game has not been affected by the ostentation of limited-overs cricket.

In the recent times, many players have opted for the freelance life and are participating in the lucrative domestic leagues instead of taking the opportunity to represent their respective countries in the most prestigious format of cricket. At the same time, it’s a relief seeing players like Jayed who will never let any uncertainty loom over the future of Test cricket.
“Among all formats, I like Test the most. Ever since my childhood, I have dreamed of becoming a Test cricketer. There are many [cricketers] who enjoy Test cricket more,” said Jayed.
“I have gained experience throughout the entire series. I have played T20Is and Tests; so there's a lot of experience I've gathered.”
Abu Jayed has so far played two Tests and three T20Is for the Tigers and now he is looking to give ODIs a shot ahead of the Asia Cup. The 25-year-old also said that he is happy to be able to swing the ball on both sides.
“I'm trying to play in ODIs, as I've seen all three ODIs [against the West Indies].
“I'm happy because I can swing the ball on both sides. I believe I will go far,” Jayed concluded.
