Bangladesh opening batsman Imrul Kayes is impressed with the way the new head coach has been handling the cricketers in the national team. He also said that the team is doing its homework on the opponents just like they used to do during the former head coach Chandika Hathurusingha’s stint with the Tigers.

There hasn’t been any decrease in the analyzing our opponents. We are making no mistake in that.

“Even during Hathurusingha’s tenure, we used to assess the opponents. We’ve watched enough videos of the [opponent’s] bowlers. We have played at least one series against almost all the teams. So we all are aware of each other’s flaws,” said Imrul.

Steve Rhodes was named the new Bangladesh head coach, seven months after Hathurusingha left the post. Under the former England batsman, Bangladesh have put up some great performances in the limited-overs leg of their West Indies tour, winning both the ODI and T20I series against the Caribbean side.

“I liked him [Rhodes]. He is a man of honor. He is very good at man-management. He can motivate the team very well. He has a good relationship with everyone, which is very important for our national team. I think this is a very good aspect [of his coaching],” Imrul said.

“He saw my batting and liked it. He told me that I am a quality batsman and he has seen my batting before. He also assured me that my turn will come and I have to keep trying,” he added.

The left-handed batsman also expressed his delight at Bangladesh’s recent series wins against West Indies. The Tigers mounted a great comeback in the T20Is and the ODIs after West Indies completed a clean sweep over them in the Test series.

“Maybe we were lagging behind mentally before the West Indies tour. But I'm happy with the way they came back in ODIs and T20Is. It was incredible to win the series,” Imrul remarked.
