Bangladesh Cricket Board is eyeing to send some of the leading cricketers of the country to county cricket to hone their skills before the upcoming World Cup 2019, BCB sources confirmed.
It was learnt head coach Steve Rhodes is looking forward to making some arrangements so that some of his charges have the opportunity to play in the county circuit.
“It is too early to say anything but definitely we would like to see some of our players playing in the county. Rhodes is a veteran in county circuit and assured that he will look after the matter,” said a BCB official, who preferred to remain anonymous.
“We are looking forward to see how it eventually ends up as far participation of our national cricketers in the county is concerned,” he added.

Although Shakib al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman got the chance of playing in county, country’s most technically Mushfiqur Rahim somehow failed to draw the attention of county clubs albeit it should have been the other way round. Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan played for Worcestershire under Rhodes. Left-handed pacer Mustafizur Rahman has also had a short stint with Sussex in England.
There is nothing better than the English county cricket to brush up the players’ skill at grass-roots level. The county circuit offers a great opportunity for players to prepare for international cricket.
The main attribute of multi-day cricket is to assess the character of each cricketer in different conditions. And county cricket, offers the cricketers an opportunity to do just that. At the same time, it also helps the players grow as a person.
Nowadays, the attractiveness of franchise-based cricket has somehow outshone the popularity of county cricket. The star performers from across the world now prefer playing in franchise leagues rather than giving county cricket a shot.
However, international cricketers would now want to play in English county in order to adapt to the conditions before the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in England.
Especially, cricketers from the sub-continent would surely want to adapt to the seemingly unfamiliar conditions in England.
If everything goes accordingly, more Bangladesh cricketers could be seen playing county cricket anytime soon.
