Bangladesh pacer Kamrul Islam has conveyed his disagreement with the recently-appointed coach of Bangladesh, Steve Rhodes, regarding the quest for tall bowlers in the country.

The Englishman suggested that the Tigers need to search for proper Test bowlers and suggested that tall bowlers who can hit the deck hard are what he is looking for. However, Kamrul Islam believes that Bangladeshi pacers with usual height can also succeed and that if they really want tall bowlers, they will have to bring some from West Indies.

 ‘I think it is possible [to hit the deck] with our natural heights. The genetics of Bangladeshis mean that we cannot be as tall as West Indian bowlers. If bowlers like that [as tall as West Indians] are to be searched for, then we have to bring bowlers from West Indies.

‘We have to do well with the heights that we have and we hope that we can win matches [for our team] with it.’

The 26-year-old, who didn’t have the best of times in the Test series at the Caribbean as he took just one wicket in the two Tests, then added that the most important thing to improve is skill while also suggesting that focusing more on the swing instead of pace would improve the pacers.

‘The biggest thing is to develop skill. We have to develop our skills. We have to play better after fathoming the situation.’

‘I think we have to work harder and play more first-class games. We play domestic league matches on different wickets, which helps us a lot.

‘If we can swing the ball with the pace at which we bowl [130-135], then we can do well. For example, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and other Indian bowlers can swing the ball well. If we focus on the swing instead of pace, we can develop a lot.’
