Pakistan hard-hitting batsman confirms cricket comeback
Pakistan batsman Imran Nazir is set to return to cricket, four years after battling a severe joint injury. He is hopeful of getting a spot in the Pakistan Super League [PSL] in the upcoming season.
The hard-hitting batsman revealed that he turned down an offer to play in the PSL last year due to a lack of fitness. However, he is now willing to take part in the cash-rich T20 competition.
He said: “If I get a chance to play now, then I will. I have gotten many offers from cricket leagues and I will hopefully make a strong comeback.”
“I will see how much I can play by judging the quality of my game,” he added.
Nazir has featured in 112 international matches for Pakistan across all formats, scoring 2822 runs. His last international appearance for Pakistan came in 2012, when they faced Sri Lanka in the semi-finals of the World T20. He also represented the Asia XI against the World XI in a T20 match in 2014.
The 36-year-old expressed his gratitude toward his family as well as his former teammate’s organization, the Shahid Afridi Foundation, and the Pakistan Cricket Board [PCB] for helping him during his challenging times.
“My family and fans prayed a lot for me and I am really grateful to them,” Nazir reportedly said. “I am thankful to the Shahid Afridi Foundation and the Pakistan Cricket Board for helping me during my tough times.”
Imran Nazir was the highest run-scorer for Dhaka Gladiators in the Bangladesh Premier League [BPL] in 2012. He amassed 390 runs at 43.33 and helped the Dhaka-based franchise claim the first-ever title in the tournament.
