Shakib's long-standing injury haunts Bangladesh

Bangladesh Test and T20I skipper Shakib Al Hasan is currently playing with an injury in the ongoing tour of West Indies. It is the same finger injury that kept him out of action for nearly two months earlier this year.
According to BCB physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury, the all-rounder is taking injections to get relief from the pain. He could again undergo an operation to completely recover from the injury.
“He had to take a special painkilling injection after sustaining the injury [during the tri-nation series]. He is once again taking the same injection,” said Debashish.

A re-operation would see Shakib out of the game for almost a month-and-a-half. The 31-year-old will discuss the time of the operation after returning to the country.
“In some cases, we have seen cricketers continue playing by managing injuries with such medicines. But the problem is that there are some side-effects of such medication. As a result, Shakib may have to be re-operated. He could be out of the field for six weeks after the operation,” Debashish added.
The Asia Cup will take place in September, after which Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for three ODIs and two Tests. The Tiger surely wouldn't want to miss the services of their one of the most experienced players in the continental tournament coming up next month.
