Shakib hopeful of scoring big
Bangladesh and West Indies will lock horns in the second T20I on Sunday (August 5), in Florida. The Tigers cannot afford to lose another match if they want to avoid a series defeat in T20Is. The Caribbean side are currently leading the three-match series 1-0.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has played a total of four [CPL] matches at this venue over the last two years. However, the all-rounder is still not certain about the nature of the wicket.
He said: “It is difficult to say because the wicket is different from the ones that I played on in the CPL last year. We can understand how it will be during the practice session today [August 3]. We are practicing on the wicket next to the main wicket. [I don’t think] practice-wicket and match-wicket will differ much.
"Wickets could be different even if they look alike. We can say after the practice session, but it seems like this wicket will be better than that of the last match.”
In the first clash, Bangladesh stumbled despite having a good scoring rate in the first half of their innings as their batters made mistakes, and hence, couldn’t stand firm. But this time Shakib is hopeful about their chances of posting a big score if the wicket behaves the same as the one at St. Kitts.
“We had a chance to score enough runs [in the previous match]. Somehow we couldn’t do that.
“If the wicket behaves like last match, we will have the opportunity to score a big total,” Shakib told reporters.
The third and final T20I will also take place at the same venue in Florida. But the Tigers will have to win the next game if they don't want the last match to turn into a dead rubber.
