Alzarri Joseph sanctioned over send-off of Anamul

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph has received an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC code of conduct in the second ODI against Bangladesh. In addition to the reprimand for his breach, a demerit point has been added to Joseph’s disciplinary record.
The 21-year-old has been sanctioned by the ICC for send-off of Anamul Haque during the third over of Bangladesh’s innings.
Joesph was found to have violated Article 2.1.7 of the code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an international match”.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Gregory Brathwaite, third umpire S Ravi, as well as fourth umpire Joel Wilson. The sanctions were imposed without a formal hearing as the paceman did not contest the charges.
The demerit point will remain on Joseph’s record for a 24-month period and once he reaches the threshold of four demerit points within that period, they will be converted into suspension points which could result in the seamer getting banned.
West Indies registered a narrow three-run victory against Bangladesh to square the three-match series 1-1. The third and final ODI of the series will be held on July 28, at St. Kitts.
