Shakib eyes to make the best of home-like condition in Guyana

The Tigers have returned in high spirits after winning the first ODI against West Indies. They will need to win any of the next two matches in order to seal the series.
West Indies, on the other hand, will have to win both the clashes to avoid a series defeat in their own backyard. However, Shakib Al Hasan believes that the Caribbean side will try to pose a strong challenge when the two sides meet in Guyana, on Thursday (July 26).
“We’ve to put in more efforts because I’m certain that West Indies will be hoping to come back strongly. If we win tomorrow, we won’t have to worry about (the game at) St. Kitts. Of course, we’ll try to win that game as well, but tomorrow’s match is very important to us,” Shakib told the reporters.
The southpaw missed a century by three runs on Sunday (July 22) but helped his side put up a respectable total by stitching a record-breaking stand with Tamim to set the stage for the 48-run victory.

Bangladesh won both the matches they’ve played here so far, with their first victory coming in a Super 8 clash against South Africa at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007. According to Shakib, it’s the home-like environment of Guyana that provides enough support to the team to produce a positive outcome.
“We have the best chance (of winning the series) in Guyana as it perhaps has the only spin-friendly surface in the West Indies. The wicket here feels quite as homely as the ones in Bangladesh, even when it is not a spinning track. If you see, the grass or soil here also looks similar to that in Bangladesh.
“It’s a positive part for us that the result has gone in our favor in both the matches we’ve played here so far. We’ve an important match tomorrow, so we are currently thinking about that,” he added.
The Mashrafe Mortaza-led men are determined to seal the series in the next game as they are well aware of the fact that the power-packed batting line-up of West Indies will be tougher to face at the small ground of St. Kitts.
“Team efforts will be there to succeed in every clash. When we go to play, we think on winning every match.
“I don’t think there would be much difference in St. Kitts. The venue is known for producing runs and the ground is also small there. So, that could be an advantage for them (West Indies). However, we’ll try to make the best of the next match,” Shakib said.
