The limited-over leg of Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies tour have kicked off with the first ODI between the two sides, in Guyana.
The Tigers were not able to pose any challenge to the Caribbean side in the longest format as West Indies completed a clean sweep in the Test series. However, this goes without saying that Bangladesh will try their best to bounce back in the 50-over format, where they have been a consistent team over the past few years.
Winning the toss, Bangladesh decided to bat first. They dealt an early blow Jason Holder removed Anamul Haque before the batsman could open his account.
Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan then restored the innings for their side as soon as the game resumed. A poor fielding department of the hosting side also eased the pressure off the Tigers despite continuous efforts from the bowling unit.
Both Tamim and Shakib adapted a cautious approach to avoid the any kind of mishap that the team suffered during the previous campaign. They, along with the opposing fielders, kept frustrating the bowlers and registered the highest partnership for any wicket for a visiting team on Caribbean soil.

Devendra Bishoo ended the 207-run stand by dismissing Shakib when the southpaw was just three short of an ODI ton. Tamim, however, belted his tenth ODI career century and stitched another 54-run stand after Sabbir Rahman followed Shakib to the pavilion scoring only 3 runs. Sabbir too was out by Bishoo.
Mushfiq clubbed 30 off 11 before getting out off the penultimate delivery. Andre Russell picked up his wicket and Bangladesh finally ended up scoring 275 for four in 50 overs after Mahmudullah smashed the last ball for a boundary. Tamim remained not out with a heroic innings of 130 runs to his name.
Windies’ response began in a controlled manner but the Bangladesh skipper made the breakthrough for his side in the ninth over. Evin Lewis hoisted him to the mid-off just to get caught by Mahmudullah. He made 17 runs before leaving the crease and Chris Gayle is currently continuing his innings alongside Shai Hope.
