Bangladesh start strong against the hosts

To avoid a series defeat, the second and final Test in Jamaica is a must-win situation for Bangladesh. The Tigers were outclassed in the first Test and lost the match by an innings and 219 runs, which gave the West Indies a 1-0 lead over the visitors in the two-match series.
Winning the toss in the second Test, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan invited the hosts to bat first. Keemo Paul earned his Test debut for the Caribbean side in absence of an injured Kemar Roach. Devendra Bishoo, on the other hand, had to make way for Shimron Hetmeyer to provide an extra batsman to the hosting side. Bangladesh made one change in their playing XI replacing Rubel Hossain with a spinner, Taijul Islam.
Bangladesh allowed the spinners to take the new ball and that decision certainly paid off as Mehidy Hasan made the breakthrough for them. West Indies dealt an early setback following Devon Smith’s departure for 2 runs but then a 50-run partnership between Kieran Powell and another opener Kraigg Brathwaite offered them some respite.
However, Mehidy struck once again to send Powell back to the hut. The southpaw was trapped lbw after making 29 runs.
Brathwaite has made 33 runs so far and will resume the afternoon session with Shai Hope, who is unbeaten on 11 runs.
