Cook appointed as Bangladesh's fielding coach
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Ryan Cook as the new fielding coach of the Tigers. His predecessor Richard Halsall, resigned as the assistant coach of the team in March this year.
Cook will join the national side in Jamaica on Friday ahead of their second Test against West Indies. The South African has reached an agreement with the board to work up to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.
World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten was tasked with finding Bangladesh's coach. And nearly eight months after Chandika Hathurusingha stepped down as the head coach, Bangladesh named Steve Rhodes to take up the role in June this year. Former South Africa cricketer Neil McKenzie is also due to join the Bangladesh men’s national team as batting coach during their ongoing tour.
The newly appointed trio will be working alongside bowling coach Courtney Walsh, who has been working with the team since September 2016. The Jamaican also served as interim head coach of the team during the Nidahas Trophy and the bilateral T20I series against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh are currently going through tough time after getting whitewashed against Afghanistan in the last series. They also lost the first Test against West Indies by an innings and 219 runs after scoring their lowest Test innings total of 43 runs in the first innings. To avoid a series defeat, they will have to win the second Test, starting on July 12.
