England assistant coach Paul Farbrace will take charge of the team for the upcoming T20Is against Australia and India while Trevor Bayliss, the head coach of the side, spends time watching England Lions in their tri-series matches, some county championship games and also the final match of the Royal London Cup on June 30.

England will face Australia in a one-off T20I on June 27. They will then host India for a three-T20I series, scheduled to be held between July 3 and 8. Bayliss will return to his role ahead of the ODI-series against India, starting from July 12.

A media-release by the ECB stated: “Assistant coach Paul Farbrace will be in charge of England’s T20 side for the Vitality IT20 matches against Australia and India.

“Head coach Trevor Bayliss will take a break from coaching duties and focus his attention during the two-week period watching the England Lions in the 50-over Tri-series competition against India A and West Indies A.

“He will also be in attendance at the Royal London One Day Cup final between Hampshire and Kent at Lord’s on Saturday, June 30 and will take the opportunity to watch some county cricket across the country.

“Bayliss will return to his role with England ahead of the ODIs against India starting at Trent Bridge on Thursday, July 12.”

Bayliss, who believes international sides should only play 20-over cricket six months before – and during – the T20 World Cup, had urged ECB to consider hiring Paul Farbrace as a specialist coach for the T20 side back in February this year.

Farbrace had previously served as interim head coach for the team between the sacking of Peter Moores and the appointment of Bayliss.
