8 killed in Afghanistan bombing during cricket match


In a shocking turn of events, at least eight people have been killed in a series of blasts at a cricket tournament in Eastern Afghanistan. Three explosions took place at the Naya Nazimabad Ramzan Cup cricket tournament at Jalalabad and is reported to have killed at least one child while injuring 40 people.
The organizer of the games, Hidayatullah Zaheer, was also killed in the explosions, according to ABC. The incident happened within the stadium and during the night at around 11.30 pm local time.
According to Najibullah Kamawal speaking to VOA, the director of Nangarhar’s health department, some of the injured players are in critical condition. The authorities are yet to identify the type of explosion and have assured the media that a police investigation is underway.

So far, no terrorist group has taken the credit for the blasts but the Islamic State is being touted as the group found suspicious by the authorities since they have carried out similar attacks in the past.
The Naya Nazimabad Ramzan Cup is a tournament organized during the holy month of Ramadan where the matches take place at night after the break of fast.
