Jhulan Goswami becomes first female to take 200 ODI scalps


India’s pace spearhead Jhulan Goswami became the first female cricketer to take 200 wickets in One-Day Internationals (ODI) in their match against South Africa on at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. Goswami achieved the feat by bagging the wicket of opener Laura Wolvaardt during the 2nd ODI on Wednesday. She also has 40 wickets from 10 Tests and 50 wickets from 60 T20Is to her name.
India won the 2nd clash of a 3-ODI series by a massive margin of 178 runs to seal the series. India had defeated South Africa by 88 runs in the 1st encounter at the same venue on February 5.

Smriti Mandhana’s innings of 135 run powered India to pose a daunting total of 302/3. The hosts were all out for 124 with Poonam Yadav taking 4/24.
Australia’s Cathryn scalped a total of 180 scalps before retiring in 2007. She is the 2nd most wicket-taker in ODIs followed by another Australian Lisa Sthalekar who took 146 wickets. The 4th best in the standings is Neetu David, another Indian bowler. She picked 141 wickets in ODIs before ending a 13-year-long career in 2008.
Jhulan Goswami has featured in 166 ODIs for India. Coincidentally, first male cricketer to reach 200 ODI scalps was also an Indian – Kapil Dev. World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev also needed 166 ODIs to reach that milestone.
