After star batsman AB de Villiers and Francois du Plessis, keeper-batsman Quinton de Kock becomes the third player to have joined the injury-list for the Proteas. After the first two clashes, South Africa are already 2-0 down against India in the ongoing 6-match ODI series.

Du Plessis and Dale Steyn were ruled out of the limited-overs series against India before their latest injury blow. Faf had injured his finger during the opening ODI match between India and South Africa. Earlier, De Villiers was expected to be sidelined for the first three matches of the ODI series against India due to an injured index finger.

South Africa’s team manager, Mohammed Moosajee said, “Quinton suffered an extreme blow to the left wrist while batting in the second ODI on Sunday and felt severe pain and discomfort.

“Further investigation revealed severe bony bruising to the area, with associated swelling around the tendon in the wrist. This type of injury will require between 2-4 weeks to heal, which subsequently rules him out of the remainder of the ODI and T20 series against India. The Cricket South Africa medical team will aim to have him ready for the Test series against Australia starting next month.”

Farhaan Behardien was called up to replace du Plessis. Another keeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has also been given a maiden call-up to the ODI squad as back-up to first-choice Quinton de Kock.

Quinton is expected to recover in two to four weeks and return to the team before their Test series against Australia which is scheduled to start on 1st March.
