Lankan skipper ruled out for the rest of the tour

Angelo Mathews, who was expected to return to the Sri Lanka national team during their ongoing Test against Bangladesh, has been ruled out for the rest of the tour.
For the third consecutive time, Angelo Mathews has withdrawn from an overseas tour due to an injury. After missing a full tour of Zimbabwe in 2016, he had withdrawn from Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa, and India, because of hamstring injuries last year.
Although Angelo was supposed to recover in two weeks after suffering from a tight hamstring during their 2nd match against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation series, his recovery will take more time than predicted. The all-rounder is also expected to miss the Nidahas Trophy - a T20 tri-series also involving Bangladesh and India.

With Dinesh Chanimal leading the Test team, Mathews’ withdrawal does not seem to be very problematic for the island nation. However, his absence could be problematic to their T20I-side.
Before the Nidahas Trophy that is scheduled to start on 8th March, Sri Lanka will play two t20Is against the Tigers in Bangladesh. Thisara Perera could take the captaincy in their current limited-overs skipper – Mathews’ absence.
