Afif Hossain powers Bangladesh to 5th place playoff

Bangladesh are already out of the tournament, but they are
not completely down. After all, there was the fifth-place play-off to play for.
Last night on Saturday, Chandika Hathurusingha’s Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in
Dhaka to become the champions of the tri-nation series.
While the nation was in sadness due to the loss, the younger
boys gave them some respite in the form of a win against the U19 England team. Batting
first, the Three Lions started well after losing an early wicket.
Liam Banks and Harry Brooks formed a 126 runs partnership before
the former lost his wicket to Md Rakib for 74. After that, the wickets kept
tumbling with new batsman Will Jacks falling for 2. Harry Brooks also fell soon
after and it was only a partnership between Jack Davies and Prem Sisodiya that
allowed England to cross the 200 barrier.
Jack Davies made 26 while Sisodiya made 20 to help England
reach 216 runs.

In the bowling department, Afif Hossain and Hasan Mahmud
took 3 wickets each as Qazi Onik took a brace. The remaining two wickets were
taken by Md Rakib and Robiul Haque respectively.
In response, Bangladesh started well despite the early
departure of Pinak Ghosh. Captain Saif Hassan opened the innings and scored 59.
Aminul Islam supported him for a while to score 20 runs himself. The Tigers
were cruising towards victory despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
All-rounder Afif Hossain gave them a perfect finish as he
scored a match-winning 71 from 86 balls. He was well supported by Md Rakib’s 28
from 42 balls to finish the chase by 47.3 overs.
Afif Hossain was awarded the man of the match for his
match-winning all-round contributions.
