A new captain and three new faces

Sunzamul Islam, Tanbir Hayder, and Naeem Hasan have been included in Bangladesh Squad for first Test against Sri Lanka starting on 31st January. Sunzamul and Tanbir have been named alongside the Bangladesh U-19 off-spinner Naeem as the three uncapped cricketers in the squad.
Sunzamul has played in 3 ODIs scalping 5 wickets for the Bangladesh team. Tanbir Hayder also has previous experience of playing for the country’s ODI team twice, but he failed to impress on both occasions. However, he has clubbed 2527 runs at an average of 33.69 in 58 first-class matches which includes a total of 6 centuries as well. On the other hand, Naeem Hasan has not featured in the senior team in any formats yet.

Tushar Imran was expected to be a part of the squad for his consistent performance in the domestic circuit but missed the chance in the end. He has recently joined the 10000 club in first-class cricket and picked up 2 centuries and a half-century in his last 4 innings in the BCL. The 34-year-old played 5 Tests for Bangladesh national team and made only 89 runs in those games.
The Tigers’ Test team captain Shakib Al Hasan will be missing the first clash due to a finger injury sustained during the final of the tri-nation series on Saturday. In his absence Mahmudullah Riyad will lead the side against Sri Lanka.
