The Tigers choke at the end

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh locked horns to win the
final of the tri-nation tournament. Things started well for the Lankans as
Gunathilaka started with a boundary, but kept struggling for the next deliveries.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz finally got him after getting close on numerous occasions.
After that, there was a tempest for Kusal Mendis
as he scored 28 from 9 balls. He, however, lost his wicket to Mashrafe Mortaza,
who seemed very animated after scalping him. A bit later, Niroshan Dickwella
was adjudged as LBW, but a review saved his life as the decision was
overturned.
However, he did lose his wicket after a
decently-paced 42 from 57 balls. A while later, Upul Tharanga was clean bowled
by a clever slower-one from Mustafizur Rahman. The runs kept coming at a slow
pace, but the wickets fell at regular intervals to slow down the pace of the
Sri Lankan innings.
Captain Dinesh Chandimal, however, made 45 runs
after playing 74 balls before being cleaned by Rubel Hossain. The rest of the
pack soon fell with only Akila Dananjaya reaching double figures with a score
of 17.
For the bowlers, Rubel Hossain took 4 wickets
while Mustafizur bowled economically and helped himself to 2 wickets. Mohammad
Saifuddin, Mashrafe Mortaza, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took a wicket each to
bundle out Sri Lanka for 221 in 50 overs.

Bangladeshi top-order looked helpless in front
of the Lanka bowlers, as the first three batsmen have already returned to the
pavilion.
Both Tamim and Shabbir made bad decisions to
pull the short balls from Dushmant Chameera and ended up giving their wicket
away. Mohammad Mithun was run out following his poor judgment. Mithun made 10
runs before leaving the pitch while the other two could not reach the
double-digit.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad built a
68-run partnership but that was of a little help for the Tigers with their most
prolific fielder – Shakib Al Hasan sidelined due to an injury.
Mushfiqur left the crease as Akila Dananjaya
bagged his wicket. The next two batsmen – Mehidy Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin
also could not provide the support that Mahmudullah needed as they were out
scoring 5 runs and 8 runs, respectively. The later fell a victim to a run out
while Mehidy was out caught and bowled by Dananjaya.
Madhushanka then dismissed Mashrafe Bin Mortaza
and Rubel Hossain in the last two balls of the 40th over and
completed his hat-trick in the first ball of the 42nd over by
dismissing Mahmudullah Riyad on 76 runs.
Sri Lanka have won the match by 79 runs. The team
from the island nation will be happy to have won their first tournament under
their new head coach Chandika Hathurunsingha while Dananjaya will also enjoy
taking a hat-trick in his debut match.
