Virender Sehwag also joins brigade against Kohli

This seems to be the trend now. Ever since Ramachandra Guha
wrote in his Cricinfo column that Virat Kohli needs people in the dressing room
to challenge his authority, there has been a flurry of former cricketers
opining the same.
Graeme Smith was the first one of them. And now, in what
seems like an exact repetition of what the former South Africa captain said,
Virender Sehwag has also joined the list. The former Indian opener believes
that the current Indian captain needs people to “point out his mistakes.”
"I think, Virat Kohli needs some players who can point
out his mistakes on the field," Sehwag said in a show on 'India TV'.
"Every team has four-five players who advise the
skipper and help him avoid mistakes on the field. I don't see that in the
current Indian squad.
"There's no one in the squad who can challenge Kohli's
selection decision in the dressing room.

The once-dashing opener then stated that the rest of the
players in the Indian team aren’t up to the standard of Virat Kohli, which
leaves him quite frustrated. Sehwag enthused that Kohli’s brilliance forces him
to expect the same from his team-mates, drawing parallels to Sachin Tendulkar
during the Little Master’s captaincy.
“No player is up to his standard. Virat Kohli has reached a level where he can
play well in adverse situations and he expects the same from the rest of India
squad.
"However, other players in the squad haven't reached
the stature where Kohli already is. This is affecting Kohli's captaincy. Kohli
is just asking them to make runs like him. And there's nothing wrong with it.
‘I remember when Sachin Tendulkar was the captain, he used
to ask other batsmen to score runs. If I can score, then why can't you?"
The Nawab of Najafgarh concluded by claiming that since
teamwork is important, Kohli needs to sit the others and strategise.
“It's important is to sit together and talk to make a strategy for the upcoming Test. No single player can lead you to victory, teamwork is important. Every player has to contribute.”
