On the 3rd day of the fifth Ashes Test Shaun Marsh entered the field following Steve Smith’s departure and built a 101-run partnership with centurion Usman Khawaja. Shaun did not stop there and went on to build another 169-run partnership with his brother Mitchell Marsh who came in after Khawaja’s exit.

The duo made history today as both of the Marsh brothers clubbed a century each. They became the fifth band of brothers to both score tons together in a Test. Their brotherly act has seen them join the Waughs (twice), Zimbabwe's Andy and Grant Flower (once), Australia's Ian and Greg Chappel (three times) and Pakistan's Mushtaq and Sadiq Mohammed (once).

Shaun Marsh was on 98 and Mitchell on 63 runs yesterday. Today Shaun picked up his century at the very fifth delivery but the latter had to wait for 16 more over to get to his hundred. Steve Smith produced a priceless reaction during Mitchell’s returning for a second run after completing his ton with the first as he deviated straight for his brother Shaun, jumping into a mid-pitch.

Once the mini crisis had been averted, the Kangaroos’ skipper Smith put his hands on his head and appeared to mouth the words "f*** me" as his teammates around him started laughing hysterically. 

This is the fourth time that 34-year-old Shaun and 26-year-old Mitchell are playing together in a Test match. Their feat is different from the other four band of brother mentioned above, because they are the first duo whose father had also scored Test centuries.

Geoff Marsh had played 50 Tests for the Aussies and scored 4 centuries before his offspring scored a hundred each in the same innings. This is the first time that a centurion cricketer’s sons have scored centuries in the same innings.
