England wash away whitewash hopes

Alastair Cook, the man back in form, had done enough to push the Aussies almost out of the match. He and Broad, being the two men under pressure throughout the whole series, finally came out of their shell to throw a challenge before the Kangaroos.

Australia had registered 327 runs in their first innings, thanks to a century from David Warner. The team, after the 4th day, are now trailing by 61 runs with 8 wickets remaining.

Cook and Anderson finished day-3 with a total of 491 runs on the scoreboard. Today, Anderson went out for a duck and that finished the English innings without adding any runs on day-4.

England lost their remaining wicket in the very first delivery of today's game. Australia then came on to bat following a 164-run trail. Scoring 103 runs they lost only 2 wickets.

England got their first breakthrough dismissing Bancroft. A good length delivery got a thick inside edge from his bat and rattled the stumps. He scored 27 runs before being bowled out by Chris Woakes.

The man at no. 3, Usman Khwaja, could not stay for long on the ground as Jonny Bairstow took a catch from behind the stumps after Khwaja edged a delivery from Anderson.

David Warner and Steven Smith remained unbeaten at the stumps of the rain-marred match. Warner played in a different style opposing his regular smash-the-ball mood. The opener scored 40 runs facing 140 deliveries. Smith, on the other side, ended the day posting 25 runs off 67.

Australia lost two wickets in the very first session on the flat pitch. The Baggy Greens did not give away further wickets after lunch.

The Test is most likely going towards a draw, with Australia having a very little chance of getting a healthy lead and bagging all wickets of the opponent in the last day. Earlier in the 1st innings, team England exhibited their bowling genius and took 7 wickets in quick succession conceding 67 runs. Such batting collapse could lead to Australian defeat as well, if repeated on the 5th day.
