Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan has stated that he wants the surgery on his finger to be carried out as soon as possible while also revealing that he is very happy with how the team fared in West Indies.
The Tigers toured the Caribbean for a two-match Test series and a three-match ODI and T20I series, respectively, and came out victorious in the latter two battles. While they might have lost the Test series in an embarrassing manner, their triumph in white-ball cricket away from home is something that gives the all-rounder incredible joy.
‘Overall, it was a great tour [in West Indies]. We won two out of the three series. We don’t usually gain such results outside the country, [so I am] very satisfied.’
Shakib Al Hasan has been playing with a finger injury ever since he returned to cricket in the Nidahas trophy. It all started when the all-rounder injured his little finger in his left hand in the final of a tri-series tournament against Sri Lanka in January.

While he did make a return in the second-last match of the Nidahas trophy in March, he has been taking painkiller injections to ease off the pain. As a result, he needs surgery to recover and stated that he wants it complete before the Asia Cup itself as he doesn’t like playing without being fully fit.
‘We all know that surgery is needed [on the finger]. We are having discussions on where and when to do it. I think that it would be better if we do it as soon as possible.
‘It [the surgery] will most probably happen before the Asia Cup.
‘I want the surgery done soon because I don’t want to play without being fully fit. Hence, I think it is normal if the surgery is done before the Asia Cup.’
One of the concerns for Bangladesh, according to many, is that most of the contribution with the bat is executed by the seniors. Shakib, however, thinks that it is only fair for the seniors to do it as they play in the top order.
‘We [the seniors] mostly play in the top order, which means that we get more opportunity [to score runs]. So it is natural that we contribute more and it is only fair that we do it.'
